Highlights:Energy conservation and cost reduction are vital in the current market scenario for the survival of fertiliser units. Since, most of the utilities in the fertiliser industry run continuously, 24 hours a day throughout the year, except few days shut down period, utilities costs have a good potential for savings. A comparison of design versus actual operating data at site, provides practical basis for evaluating energy conservation opportunities. The article shows how a few low cost measures using available material and in-house expertise can reap handsome savings in utilities. Most of the power savings and cost reduction measures described in this article are valid for all fertiliser & chemical process industries.
